Yes it has sugar in it just less sugar than milk chocolate or even semi-sweet.

I grated the chocolate from a bar of dark chocolate from Trader Joes and it never did completely melt. I think the recipe would be good (to me) if the chocolate melted and I used about 1 oz. of chocolate. And again, maybe I’m just a sissy.
