Beef and Pork - Cooking Classy https://www.cookingclassy.com/recipes/meat/ with a sprinkle of fancy Wed, 06 Aug 2025 04:40:19 +0000 en-US hourly 1 44235149 Pork Carnitas {Instant Pot or Slow Cooker} https://www.cookingclassy.com/pork-carnitas/ https://www.cookingclassy.com/pork-carnitas/#comments Tue, 05 Aug 2025 21:07:36 +0000 https://www.cookingclassy.com/?p=7539 Easy pork Carnitas tacos made simple! Pork shoulder is slow simmered in a crockpot or pressured cooked in an instant pot until perfectly tender, then it's shredded and broiled to flavorful, crispy perfection!

These are easily just as good as what you'd find in any Mexican restaurant but you get to enjoy them at a fraction of the price in the comfort of your own home.

What are Carnitas Anyway?

If you haven't had Carnitas you are probably trying to figure out exactly what "Carnitas" means. It's a spanish word meaning "little meats."  It's a Mexican dish and generally it's made by braising or roasting pork then shredding it and simmering in lard or vegetable oil until crispy.

But here we switch that up and use the slow cooker and cook for 8 hours or use a pressure cooker and cook for 1 hour. And the pork carnitas are broiled it instead of sautéing it in oil to get that same crispy effect. Broiling it takes less time, creates less mess, and requires less oil.

And I go for semi-crispy. I like the ends of the meat to be nice and crispy but I recommend that you don't overdue it. You don't want to dry the meat.

With this simple recipe you end with tempting, crispy little pieces of pork that you won't be able to stop "taste testing."

Throw the finished carnitas into warmed corn or flour tortillas, add some cilantro and diced onion and voila. Such a simple, satisfying dinner that everyone will love!

Burger Bowls https://www.cookingclassy.com/burger-bowls/ https://www.cookingclassy.com/burger-bowls/#comments Mon, 21 Jul 2025 03:33:05 +0000 https://www.cookingclassy.com/?p=77042 A summery Burger Bowl that can be prepared any day year round, no grill required! Made with seared ground beef, tender oven fries, tart baby dill pickles, tangy cheddar, sweet tomatoes, vibrant onions, crisp lettuce and a flavorful burger sauce.

Single serving burger bowl showing ground beef, pickles, tomatoes, cheese, onion, baked fries and lettuce.

Burger bowls may seem all wrong at first glance because many of us grew up eating a classic burger not long after we could chew. So to take that special something that's American tradition that we've eaten for decades and modifying it to something that looks like a salad can just seem so strange. But to that I'd say, wait to give it your final opinion until you've tried them yourself and tasted of their exceptional flavor!

Burger bowls are simply a deconstructed burger made with the best things you get in a diner style burger and then some. The typical bun is traded for golden brown oven fries and it's polished off with a generous drizzle of savory burger sauce. A sauce that's similar to the spread at In-n-Out or Smash Burger sauce - being lightly sweet, slightly tangy, and extra creamy.

It's an exciting new way to switch up the typical piled high burger on a bun, into a piled high bowl spread out into an appetizing blend of colors and a satisfying variety of textures. It's a must try recipe for all burger lovers!

Busy people, meat lovers, cozy meal cravers, kids and adults alike - everyone loves this simple dish for so many reasons!

What is Beef Bourguignon?

Beef Bourguignon (which is pronounced beef boar-gin-yaan) is a signature French stew made up chunks of rich beef braised in a deeply flavored red wine based sauce, along with aromatic vegetables such as pearl onions and browned mushrooms. Often times it includes another rich meat such as pork (bacon!), and it also includes plenty of herbs for complementary fresh flavor.

It is a humble, rustic style dish yet somehow at the same time if seems luxurious with such sophisticated flavor. It's creates a main dish worthy of a holiday celebration!

Wondering what to serve with Beef Bourguignon? It's best paired with mashed potatoes or a hearty artisan bread because there's so much of that complex gravy-like sauce to be soaked up by pairing with something so appropriately fitting.

Shredded Beef Tacos

This is truly a family favorite recipe! I first shared it way back in 2012 it was one of my original go-to recipes and still is! I make it all the time for parties, family get togethers, weeknight meals and for freeze ahead meal prep.

It's one of the easiest things you can make, the beef is so tender and brimming with flavor, and people of all ages enjoy these tacos.

Personally I'm a total food snob and will only make this using the method of browning before slow-cooking, but for really busy people you can skip the browning method and you'll still have a tasty dinner.

The other great thing about this shredded beef taco recipe is that you can use leftover beef for so many other dishes such as enchiladas, taquitos, nachos, quesadillas, tamales or burritos. And if you are in a hurry you can just serve these street taco style with simply the beef, cilantro, onion and lime.

I've also updated this recipe with notes including a stove-top cooking option for those of you who don't have a slow cooker or just prefer it to be ready faster. And I've also included and option for cooking it in a pressure cooker. Of the three I like slow cooking the best but use what works for you and your schedule and the equipment you have.

This hearty, cheesy taco pasta is two homestyle dishes combined into one and people of all ages love it! It's a simple one pan dinner that you can have ready in just over 30 minutes.

If you aren't familiar with this dish it may sound strange but trust me it's actually such a super satisfying, completely enjoyable dinner. It's like those pasta dishes from the 90's that maybe started with a box, but this is 100 times better!

It's a very adaptable recipe too. You can add different mix-ins to use up ingredients you may already have, or try swapping out the protein or pasta. Just stick with the base and seasonings used, and always add cheese because it's truly a main highlight of the dish.

Sloppy Joes https://www.cookingclassy.com/sloppy-joes/ https://www.cookingclassy.com/sloppy-joes/#comments Sat, 13 Jul 2024 18:46:00 +0000 https://www.cookingclassy.com/2012/08/sloppy-joes/ Homemade Sloppy Joes! Brimming with hearty browned beef, lots of veggies and a rich, lightly sweet, lightly smokey tomato based sauce. This recipe is fast, flavorful and sure to satisfy those old time cravings!

Want to make them next level delicious? Serve them on homemade hamburger buns, you can even butter and toast them!

Sloppy Joes on a homemade hamburger bun. Served with potato chips, pickles and coleslaw to the side.

Easy Sloppy Joes with the Best Sloppy Joes Sauce!

Who doesn't love a classic sloppy joe sandwich? So many of us grew up eating these in the 90's, made with that canned sauce of course that isn't anything near as good as this homemade version.

This easy sloppy joes sauce from scratch don't take much more effort than a store-bought Manwhich sauce and it's easily worth the few extra steps! Made from scratch is always better.

These beefy sandwiches are saucy, messy, and just so simply satisfying. You'll always find them piled high and spilling over because it's impossible for any bun to fully retain all that tasty goodness.

They definitely may not be the fanciest most appealing dish, but they are just good for the soul comfort food.

And I think it's fitting to say these are always one of the highlights of summer. Bakery fresh (or homemade) burger buns sandwiching a rich, meaty, tomato-y filling, with a nice balance sweet and smoky and a welcomed background flavor of seasoning throughout them.

Pair them with all your favorite summer sides, and an ice cold drink of course to polish it off. This is how you do real people food.

Homestyle Sausage with Peppers and Onions

Sausage and peppers is a simple Italian style dish that's packed with bright fresh ingredients an abundance of comforting, satisfying flavor. It's an enjoyable lunch or dinner entree that is easy to make and it's fun to serve a variety of ways.

It begins with rich sausages that are beautifully browned, then they simmer briefly nestled with the sautéed peppers and onions, while the sauce simmers down and lightly thickens for a nice base. To finish the sausages are sliced into bite size coins and it's all coated with a fair sprinkle of parmesan, because why not? It adds that last touch of perfectly enhancing flavor.

There's so much crave-able goodness in every bite. Truly you'll want to use bakery fresh hoagies only (no stale hoagies buns from the shelf) for something this delicious!

Shortcut Korean Beef

Traditional Korean beef bulgogi is incredible of course, but this Korean ground beef bowl recipe is even easier (no marinating or slicing beef), faster, and it's cheaper.

After just one bite I think you'll completely appreciate this dish. Those sweet, salty, and umami flavors over the richness of the well browned beef are simplicity at it's best.

Then when you pair it with fresh veggies and cozy rice and you've got a tempting, piled high bowl of hearty and delicious comfort food the whole family can agree on!
